painting a tumbler

by:Xianke     2020-06-13
During the football season, I often hang out at my parents\' home and watch the LSU football match.
Most of the time, my parents also have neighbors and friends to watch the game.
At the end of last season, a friend of my dad brought his custom painted tumbler, and his wife brought her.
I think they are very cool even if they are not LSU themes.
They told me where they painted it, about how they understood the person doing it, and how much they spent.
Well, it\'s quite expensive.
I think the cost is too high because this guy uses car paint and professional equipment to customize them.
The quality is very good and he can do some really cool designs, however, I can\'t justify the cost when the type of design I want is very simple, I can\'t miss my chance to try.
Now the person who painted my dad\'s friend\'s wine glass has drawn and dipped in guns, knives, auto parts, etc in a very similar industry.
So, for him to draw these glasses, he doesn\'t need much upfront investment, especially if his clients bring them to him.
I would like to have all the equipment needed for painting as much as he does, but, I am not rich, so this has to be done on a budget to a certain extent.
I know I want to paint my tumbler in purple and yellow and I want it to be the LSU theme.
I have an extra LSU decal and I have ordered something else before but never used it so I thought I would use it in this project.
I also know that the best option to keep this budget friendly is to use spray paint.
I think the quality of the finished product will be a little better if I use model painting.
My understanding is that the model paint you bought at hobby stores is essentially car paint and I know it is better quality than normal paint because I often use it to make model cars.
I watched a few videos on YouTube and learned how others drew wine glasses and found it quite straight forward.
I even learned some tricks that I didn\'t think.
After figuring out how to do it, I started to look around my house and see what material I already have and what I need to buy.
In the end, I already had almost all the material and even got some extra wine glasses from various company reps and jobs.
But since all my extra wine glasses are either snowmen or RTIC brands and since this is my first attempt, I don\'t want to mess them up and I decided to buy cheaper Walmart
Wal-Mart brand tumbler.
My list of materials for this project is as follows: I believe
Mart carries everything you need to complete this project.
They are not allowed to carry model paint (
They used to be like this, but I haven\'t seen it for a long time)
Depending on the design you want, you may need to order decals or make decals elsewhere.
I already have my decals (
This was ordered by me before)
In addition to the paint I need, I bought most of the material at WalmartMart.
Then I bought model paint in Hobby Hall.
Before painting, I have to prepare the tumbler in order to get the best effect.
Since I want the stainless steel on the bottom not to be covered, I use the blue masking tape to shield it off first and make sure to cover all the bottom.
Then I took my X.
Acto knife, using a flat face that is not a blade, I stuffed the tape into the groove at the bottom of the tumbler.
Next, I took 120 sandpaper and grinded the tumbler all the way.
Since I masked the bottom first, it stays shiny and won\'t get accidentally scratched while I wear the rest.
This step makes it easier for the paint to stick to the tumbler.
Finally I took the lid to the tumbler and put it in a sandwich size zipper
Loc bag, make sure to drain as much air as possible and place the lid on the Tumbler as much as possible.
This makes it easier to prevent paint from entering the tumbler.
After I finished preparing the tumbler for painting, I took it out and put it on the patio stone in a fairly flat place.
I took my first color and it would be the color of the design on the finished product and I sprayed it around the tumbler to make sure only the light coat was sprayed.
The key to making it better is to be patient and make a lot of light coats.
Following the instructions on the paint can, I spray the light coat every once in a while until I am happy with the color and coverage.
I waited for the recommended time for the paint to dry and then sprayed clean --
Paint.
I followed the same procedure to clear
Paint tumbler like when I spray the first color. After Qing-
The coat was completely dry and I cleaned the Cup with a small amount of alcohol and a paper towel.
Then I pick up my decal and follow the instructions attached I put it on the cup I want to design.
I made sure it was completely glued to the Cup and there were no bubbles under it.
I then took it back to my drawing area and applied the next color. After Qing-

To complete more than two colors and add more designs, just repeat steps 5 and 6 until all the colors and designs are completed.
You can also draw, stick stickers, leave stickers and more.
Create different designs and simply clear-
Cover them up.
Once I finish the painting, the last layer is clear
The coat was completely dry and I removed the masking tape and took out the cover from the bag.
Then I took a few Q-
Tips and some nail polish detergent (100% Acetone)
And clean the paint line very carefully if necessary.
Finally, I washed the cup and lid with my hands and filled it with ice
Cold sweet tea and enjoy the finished product.
A few things to keep in mind: Still, this is a cheaper GM brand Tumbler (
This is actually almost as effective as a famous brand)
This is my favorite at the moment.
It\'s not perfect, mainly because I\'m drawing outside and I think it\'s also because
The coat I used doesn\'t seem to agree with the model paint (
Maybe use model clear next time-coat also? ).
But I still get a lot of compliments, and I get more compliments when they find out that I do it myself with a spray --paint.
Now I have one, and so does my wife.
So I think I can practice drawing more.
